Having already secured their place in the round of 16 prior to yesterday’s fixture, Slot handed minutes to some lesser-used players, with Tyler Morton coming on in the second half, appearing for the first time since the FA Cup tie against Accrington Stanley.

Morton has struggled for game time this season, and The Mirror report the 22-year-old could still exit Anfield before the transfer window comes to an end, after recently admitting he has found it difficult not being in the team.

Slot is now set to make a decision on the midfielder’s future, most likely partially based on what he saw on Wednesday night, with a move elsewhere on the cards prior to the February 3rd deadline.

The Wallasey-born midfielder has spent a lot of time out on loan in the past, enjoying impressive spells with Blackburn Rovers and Hull City, where he solidified his place as an important part of the team.

However, it was always going to be a difficult task for the central midfielder to force his way into starting contention at Liverpool, and there is unlikely to be an increase in game time on the horizon.

With the Reds performing at such a high level both domestically and in Europe, Slot is unlikely to want to make too many changes to his side, meaning the Englishman may not be handed many more opportunities.

Having expressed how difficult it is to not be regularly involved, another loan move until the end of the season could suit Morton, at which point his contract is set to expire, and the club can re-assess his future.

Considering the Liverpool academy graduate has been lauded as “incredible” in the past, it is clear he possesses a lot of potential, but he is not going to develop if he doesn’t receive consistent game time.

Signing from Portugal has certainly gone well in the past, and after earlier reports indicated their interest, it looks as though Wolves are set to sign Manu Silva and hand Pereira another welcomed boost this month.

"Strong" Manu Silva brings key versatility

Whilst he is likely to be used primarily as a midfielder, Manu Silva’s ability to also play as a centre-back will undoubtedly help a Wolves side often left short on defensive options, even after the arrival of Agbadou earlier this month.

This was a hard enough task but with big hitting all-rounder Dan Douthwaite unable to bat, having only managing to bowl 10 balls before he left the field, it became even harder.Glamorgan eventually reached 171 for 8 as Surrey closed out a comfortable win with Sam Northeast’s 76 the only significant score from the home side.Surrey won the toss and elected to bat and were electrifying from the start of their innings. Jacks gave Evans great support in an opening stand that brought 115 runs from just 64 balls. Jacks was dismissed when he was trapped lbw by Glamorgan’s Australian leg-spinner Peter Hatzoglou for 46 from 29 balls.While Evans had been the aggressor in his stand with Jacks it was Curran who took on the role when he walked into bat at three. Gakpo, 26, is playing the best football of his Liverpool career under Slot’s leadership, turning into one of Liverpool’s biggest goal threats and forging a neat connection with Mohamed Salah, who has assisted the 26-year-old nine times already, the third-highest total in the Egyptian’s Reds career.

It’s all worked out quite well. Gakpo spent the early months of the campaign battling with Luis Diaz for the left wing spot in the Premier League but has now made it his own with the Colombian’s multi-faceted skills serving him well in a kind of makeshift, Firmino-esque focal role.

Liverpool flattered to deceive against Tottenham last time out but you can’t argue against Gakpo’s role in the overall success this year, especially when noting that he has sharpened an already keen attacking edge to a piercing point.

One of the most important points of improvement this term has been through Slot’s (correct) assessment that Gakpo is at his fearsome best when deployed on the left flank, owing to his precision finishing and expert inswinging ability on the ball.

All 18 of the Dutchman’s starting berths have been handed on the left flank this season, and he’s beginning to show why there was such a furore across the globe when he starred at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, alerting Liverpool to his skills.

The £68m-rated Kvaratskhelia would be a credit to Liverpool’s frontline, perhaps even a necessary signing if one of Nunez or Chiesa is to be sold this year, but Gakpo is thriving right now, with his quality too great to see him relegated to a lesser role.

In fact, as per CIES Football Observatory, the Netherlands international – who The Athletic’s Carl Anka has labelled a “superstar” – is currently valued at £91m, a higher valuation by the club’s current top target of some £23m.
