PSG are reported by to have "cooled" their interest in Rashford and are expected to actively pursue other targets instead during this summer's transfer window. The French champions are looking at "three or four" strikers to replace Kylian Mbappe, including Victor Osimhen, but Rashford is not believed to be among them, despite attempts to sign him last year.

An earlier report suggested that United could give "genuine consideration" to credible offers they might receive for Rashford and almost every other member of the squad – only three players are considered not for sale at this point. It comes as the club look for ways to increase a limited transfer budget after failing to qualify for next season's Champions League, which will negatively affect revenue and therefore spending power in 2024-25.

DID YOU KNOW?

Rashford is on the brink of making his milestone 400th Manchester United appearance. His 399th came against Bournemouth recently, but he has been made to wait for the landmark game due to injury ruling him out of Sheffield United and Burnley clashes. Only 27 players have made more appearances in United's entire history.

Getty ImagesWHAT NEXT FOR RASHFORD?

Hoping to return from injury quickly, Rashford will be determined to finish the season on a positive note, especially with Euro 2024 on the immediate horizon. His current club form, which is far removed from last season when he scored 30 goals in all competitons, is unlikely to land him a starting place in Gareth Southgate's side.

Steyn record lights up bowlers' day out

The Boxing Day Test match moved rapidly forward on a frenetic first day in Centurion, South Africa and Pakistan’s seam attacks trading blows on a surface that offered encouragement for the quicks. After the early celebrations for Dale Steyn’s ascent to the top of South Africa’s Test bowling records, Duanne Olivier starred with a career-best 6 for 37 and Babar Azam’s fluent 71 in his first innings on South African soil was the only innings of substance as the visitors folded for 181.Whatever advantage South Africa had gained with the ball was swiftly put in perspective when Pakistan’s bowlers cut a swathe through the top order. A 69-run stand between Theunis de Bruyn and Temba Bavuma repaired the innings somewhat, but a deficit of 54 remained when stumps were called with the match in the balance. The hype on Wednesday morning had been focused around Steyn’s attempt at surpassing Shaun Pollock’s 421 Test dismissals – one that has been drawn out over the past year as Steyn fought his way back to full fitness. But once the game was under way, the wait wasn’t long and with his 19th delivery Steyn found the outside edge of Fakhar Zaman’s bat to move to 422 and break a record that has stood for a decade.Steyn’s emotion at the milestone was clearly evident. There were no crazy eyes, and no chainsaw celebration, but he was embraced by his team-mates and raised aloft by Kagiso Rabada as Tina Turner’s was belted out over the ground’s PA system. As he had promised, Steyn didn’t waste too much time settling and getting back to his mark to focus on taking the next wicket. He didn’t get another, but Olivier’s efforts rattled Pakistan thereafter.ALSO READ: Duanne Olivier, South Africa’s ‘other bowler’ who stole the showOlivier came on as the change bowler after the first hour and soon struck in consecutive overs to start Pakistan’s wobble. His first dismissal was fortuitous, the ball ricocheting off Shan Masood’s thigh pad and then glove and onto the stumps, but there was nothing lucky about the in-dipper that trapped Asad Shafiq in front of his stumps in Olivier’s next over. After lunch, Olivier dug one in at Azhar Ali to force a skewed edge that de Bruyn snaffled brilliantly, diving to his right from third slip, and half the visiting line-up was back in the change-room with just 86 on the board. Sarfraz Ahmed could not last the first over he faced, poking tentatively at a back-of-a-length delivery from Olivier to send an inside edge onto his stumps, and Mohammad Amir was given a thorough working-over before Olivier slipped a full one through his defences to collect his fifth.Olivier’s speeds matched those of his illustrious team-mates throughout: he operated consistently in the 140s and bowled as fast as 146kph as he vexed the tail, Amir being struck a stinging blow that immediately brought up a purple bruise on the little finger of his right hand before he had his stumps disturbed.Pakistan were seven down before reaching 100 yet on the board when Amir fell, but vitally Babar was still at the crease and he rose to the situation to shepherd what remained of the tail. Babar was the only visiting batsman to play the pull with any authority, and also took Steyn on in thrilling fashion in the afternoon.Babar’s riposte to Steyn’s return to the attack for a third spell in the 39th over was a flurry of attacking strokes that mixed venomous intent with a silken touch. Babar generally kept the ball along the turf with controlled aggression, but there was remarkable freedom in his strokeplay as he spanked Steyn out of the attack with 10 fours in four overs.Mohammad Amir celebrates•AFP

Invigorated by the battle with an increasingly wide-eyed Steyn, Babar raced to a 58-ball fifty, surviving a desperate review for caught behind when the ball had only flicked his trouser pocket. After Steyn had been removed from the attack, it was Rabada who finally got the better of Babar, a rare poor shot resulting in an edge to Faf du Plessis at first slip. Hasan Ali swung gamely for his 21 not out, but Shaheen Afridi feathered an edge to give Olivier his sixth wicket and bring the innings to an end.At that point, it was advantage South Africa, but a touch of variable bounce as early as the second session would not have escaped the attention of Pakistan’s bowlers and Hasan and Amir bristled in their new-ball spells. Hasan nipped one off the seam to trap Aiden Markram in front in the sixth over after tea, but it was the combination of Amir and Afridi that pressed the game forward.Amir’s return for a second burst brought immediate reward, the ball flying off the leading edge of Hashim Amla’s bat to be caught by Babar at gully. Afridi then found the edge of Dean Elgar’s bat even as he tried to shoulder arms, and with his very next delivery got one to spit off a length, taking the shoulder of du Plessis’ bat as the South African captain fell for a golden duck.South Africa were in serious strife at 43 for 4, and Bavuma and de Bruyn had to contend with a cauldron of pressure in the middle. They responded in fine style, gritting out the early exchanges before the runs started to come and the pressure eased. Their concentration was unfazed by a short stoppage for a passing shower, and de Bruyn greeted Yasir Shah’s introduction with a pull for six when the legspinner dropped short.Bavuma added back-to-back fours of his own off Yasir, the second of which brought up the fifty stand, and then shimmied down the track, slapping a drive through cover to bring up the team’s 100. Yasir leaked 24 from his first four overs, and Sarfraz once again turned to Amir in fading afternoon light. He broke through once again almost straightaway, catching de Bruyn in two minds at the crease to find the edge, and parity was restored once more with South Africa’s innings in the balance at 112 for 5. The focus returned to Steyn, now with bat in hand after being shunted ahead of Quinton de Kock as nightwatchman. He sliced two streaky boundaries, but survived to fight another day alongside Bavuma, who was unbeaten on 38.

Limited Kings XI befuddled by middle muddle

No Indian batsman in the Kings XI line-up is close to threatening a spot in the T20I team, and it showed in the way they tied themselves in a mess in the middle overs against Gujarat Lions

‘Bravo’s spell was the turning point’ – Finch

Two yorkers. One fast, one slow. Both at the base of the stumps. Glenn Maxwell and David Miller gone. It will be tempting to surmise that Dwayne Bravo, rightly being hailed as arguably the best bowler in this IPL, won Gujarat Lions the match in one over, but it is important to also look at events that led to this big over and those that followed it. Kings XI Punjab’s Indian batsmen – not one of them is anywhere close to threatening a spot in the Indian T20I side – will have to take a lot of the blame.M Vijay and Manan Vohra got off to a dream start with the new ball coming on to the bat, when all that was required to do was clear the infield. In T20 cricket, especially on Indian pitches, the bowling side is not overly bothered by these kind of starts, so long as the batsmen are going at under 10 an over. The best bowlers are saved for the overs immediately after the Powerplay. This is when lesser T20 batsmen get stuck. There is no time for batsmen to relax in a T20 game. If you do have a slow period in the middle, you better trust your game as much as Virat Kohli does, and you better be that good. If you cannot hit boundaries, you should be able to keep working the twos and be able to go at a strike-rate of about 120 before you can open up again. As they got stuck into Sarabjit Ladda and Pradeep Sangwan, Vijay and Vohra took Kings XI to 52 for 0 in six overs. Then, Gujarat Lions went to their best bowlers: Ravindra Jadeja and Bravo. In the sixth over, Vijay hit his final boundary. Until then Vijay batted beautifully, his flicks languid, his drives free-flowing. Even opponent Aaron Finch said for some time it was beautiful to watch. In T20s, though, there is not much room for the niceties of the high elbow.Vijay eventually fell in the 11th over, trying to hit Jadeja inside-out – a low-percentage shot unless you are playing with a wet ball or on a perfectly flat surface. Vijay scored 10 off the last 14 balls he faced. Vohra enjoyed some luck in a slow start – he was dropped early by Bravo – but he too relied just on the big shots, and perished to the wily Jadeja. Ajinkya Rahane faces criticism for similar dismissals in T20Is.By the time Miller and Maxwell came together, Kings XI had fallen behind on a pitch where 190 was about par. They were ideally the men to be doing the big hitting at the end, but were obliged to look for those big ones earlier than they would have wanted. That task was made even more difficult because they came up against Gujarat’s best bowler, Bravo.Just before Miller was done in by the Bravo slower one, the field had changed. Midwicket had gone back, and third man had come in. It was apparent Bravo was going to bowl a slower ball. This was also the last ball of the over. Who knows if, in another circumstance, Miller would have just looked to pick a single? A proper batsman should not be getting so befuddled by a slower ball when it has been telegraphed. What followed was a reminder that Wriddhiman Saha, despite being a plucky Test batsman and despite one great IPL season, is a limited T20 batsman, especially when the field has been spread out. His 20 off 25 was one of the prime reasons Kings XI fell 30 short of a par score. They now have a problem at hand. Their Indian batsmen will have to pull their weight, and their two big star batsmen will have to pull themselves out of an ordinary run of form.

Forget Scarlett: Spurs’ 8/10 sensation showed he could save Levy millions

Well, that was just what Tottenham Hotspur needed.

After Sunday’s dreadful defeat to Leicester City in the Premier League, Ange Postecoglou’s side had to pick up all three points in their home Europa League clash with Elfsborg last night, which is just what they did.

Now, genuine chances were few and far between for the Lilywhites in the first half, but the team stuck to their plan and eventually ran out 3-0 winners.

The victory, on top of news about an offer for Bayern Munich’s sensational Mathys Tel being accepted yesterday, has really lifted the mood around the club.

That said, while youngster Dane Scarlett has understandably grabbed the headlines for his impact off the bench, another standout performer showed why he could save Daniel Levy and Co from spending millions on the Frenchman.

Dane Scarlett's game vs Elfsborg

So, while the mood after the game was an understandably positive one, and the win was fully deserved, it would be fair to say that for the entirety of the first half and much of the second, it felt like Spurs were never going to score.

However, in the 66th minute, Postecoglou was forced into a substitute when Radu Dragusin went off injured – yes, another one – and opted to bring on the recently returned Scarlett. What a decision that was.

Just four minutes after stepping onto the pitch, the 20-year-old forward found himself perfectly positioned between two defenders in the opposition’s penalty area, jumped to meet a pinpoint accurate cross from Dejan Kulusevski and headed the hosts in front.

He wasn’t done there, though, as 14 minutes later he was involved in a lovely passing move that saw him provide fellow academy graduate Oyindamola Ajayi with the assist for his first senior goal to take the game out of sight for the visitors.

The Hillingdon-born poacher left quite an impression on Spurs writer Alasdair Gold, who awarded him a 9/10 match rating at full-time and wrote that the academy graduate was ‘terrific’ during his time on the pitch.

However, while Scarlett was certainly superb, there was another youngster who shone on the night, a youngster who played the full 90 and might have put in a performance good enough to tempt Levy into not splashing the cash on Tel this month: Mikey Moore.

Mikey Moore's game vs Elfsborg

Yes, the player in question is, of course, none other than academy star Moore.

The 17-year-old prodigy started the game out on the wing and looked entirely at home in senior football, so much so that he was undoubtedly one of the Lilywhites’ best players.

The “outrageous” talent, as dubbed by U23 scout Antonio Mango, was a constant threat throughout the game, making a couple of dangerous dribbles in the first half and then topping off his performance with a sensational run in the final minute of the game that ended in a goal; his first in senior football and the third scored by an academy graduate on the night.

Now, we would argue that this is the wrong conclusion to take from the incredibly exciting attacker’s display, but there is a chance the board might reassess their need for a new wide player after watching him boss the game from the word go.

With that said, someone who was very impressed with what he saw was Gold, who gave the teenage dynamo an 8/10 at full-time and praised him for his close control, goal and application.

Unsurprisingly, the Southwark-born gem’s statistics from the game more than back up the praise he’s since received, as in 94 minutes of football, he produced a combined expected goals and assists figure of 0.32, took three shots on target, took 64 touches, completed three dribbles, played one key pass, won two fouls and, of course, scored the final goal.

Ultimately, for his goal and assist, Scarlett deserves all the praise he’s received since full-time, but for his efforts across the 90 minutes, Moore’s display was arguably just as impressive.

Arsenal could be handed £203k-per-week France forward on loan in January

Arsenal are likely to emerge as the potential beneficiaries of a star international forward when the transfer window reopens in around a week’s time, with Mikel Arteta in need of fresh attacking options after multiple injury blows.

Arsenal tipped to move for new winger after Saka and Sterling injuries

Following their imperious 5-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last weekend, Arteta was dealt some less-than-ideal news regarding two big-name forwards in his squad.

Bukayo Saka looked a frustrated figure in south London on Saturday, forced off with a hamstring injury in the 24th minute against Palace, and it has since come to light that the 24-year-old is set for “many weeks” on the sidelines.

To make matters even worse for Arteta, summer signing Raheem Sterling will also be out for a lengthy period after sustaining a knee problem, with Arsenal now having to make do with vastly reduced attacking options in the wide area.

“It’s not looking good,” said Arteta in a latest injury update on Saka.

“He’s going to be out for many weeks.”

There are even suggestions that Saka could be out until March with a torn hamstring, which would be a hammer blow for Arsenal, who were also forced to cope without club captain and chief creator Martin Odegaard for months earlier on in the campaign.

In light of this terrible news for the Gunners, who are attempting to keep up with current Premier League title favourites Liverpool at the top of the table, it is believed they could bring forward their plans to sign a new winger.

Saka and Sterling’s injuries are allegedly forcing Arteta to pull a “major U-turn” over bringing in a wide attacker this January, and we saw similar reports when the former injured himself during England’s 2-1 defeat to Greece at Wembley in October.

Football Insider claimed back then that Arsenal may explore a quick January deal for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, so this may well be the case once more, given Saka’s injury looks far more serious this time round.

Barcelona’s Dani Olmo is now among the names linked with a January switch to Arsenal, and out-of-favour £203,000-per-week PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani could be floated in Arsenal’s direction as well.

Arsenal "likely" to be offered PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani

That is according to reliable journalist Simon Collings, who writes for Standard Sport that Arsenal are “likely” to be offered Kolo Muani on a loan deal in January.

France'sRandalKoloMuanireacts

The 26-year-old was tipped to step into Kylian Mbappe’s shoes at the Parc des Princes, following the latter’s departure to Real Madrid, but Luis Enrique hasn’t called upon him quite as much as most expected.

His lack of consistent opportunities has opened the door to a potential mid-season departure, and Arsenal are one of many clubs who could be handed an opportunity to bring in Kolo Muani on a temporary deal.

Despite not being a regular at PSG, the former Eintracht Frankfurt sensation remains a star for France at international level.

Kolo Muani for France.

He burst on to the scene for Les Bleus at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, scoring their semi-final opener against Morocco and bagging an assist in the final against Argentina, with manager Didier Deschamps including him in every single squad since then.

Kolo Muani has bagged three goals and an assist over their last five UEFA Nations League games, with Deschamps still highly favouring the forward regardless of his PSG woes.

Liverpool have hit gold on "superstar" who’s worth more than Kvaratskhelia

da stake casino: Football’s a funny business. Liverpool entered the January transfer window reciting the usual mantra: Arne Slot’s squad is talented and deep and capable, FSG would only act if that perfect market opportunity arose.

Liverpool managerArneSlotbefore the match

da bet7: Well, it has. Though the club’s most pressing concerns in terms of transfer dealings are spread across the backline, Liverpool are ready to pounce and sign one of Europe’s most talented left-wingers, for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia may be on the move this month.

Liverpool's January transfer plans

On Thursday, it emerged that Paris Saint-Germain are seeking to sign Kvaratskhelia from Napoli this winter and that the Georgian is open to leaving the first-placed Serie A side.

Napoli are looking to bank €80m (£68m) for their prized forward, and despite this, Liverpool have made their interest known and are weighing up a stunning hijack, as per The Athletic.

The Premier League leaders are already well stocked up top, but this could be an opportunity too good to pass – as well as hinting at Darwin Nunez or Federico Chiesa’s potential sale, both having been linked with exits.

Kvaratskhelia would be an incredible addition, but Cody Gakpo’s recent form does give rise to the notion that the 23-year-old might not even earn a starting role from the offing.

Slot has hit gold on Cody Gakpo

Gakpo, 26, is playing the best football of his Liverpool career under Slot’s leadership, turning into one of Liverpool’s biggest goal threats and forging a neat connection with Mohamed Salah, who has assisted the 26-year-old nine times already, the third-highest total in the Egyptian’s Reds career.

Cody Gakpo celebrates for Liverpool

It’s all worked out quite well. Gakpo spent the early months of the campaign battling with Luis Diaz for the left wing spot in the Premier League but has now made it his own with the Colombian’s multi-faceted skills serving him well in a kind of makeshift, Firmino-esque focal role.

Liverpool flattered to deceive against Tottenham last time out but you can’t argue against Gakpo’s role in the overall success this year, especially when noting that he has sharpened an already keen attacking edge to a piercing point.

One of the most important points of improvement this term has been through Slot’s (correct) assessment that Gakpo is at his fearsome best when deployed on the left flank, owing to his precision finishing and expert inswinging ability on the ball.

All 18 of the Dutchman’s starting berths have been handed on the left flank this season, and he’s beginning to show why there was such a furore across the globe when he starred at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, alerting Liverpool to his skills.

The £68m-rated Kvaratskhelia would be a credit to Liverpool’s frontline, perhaps even a necessary signing if one of Nunez or Chiesa is to be sold this year, but Gakpo is thriving right now, with his quality too great to see him relegated to a lesser role.

In fact, as per CIES Football Observatory, the Netherlands international – who The Athletic’s Carl Anka has labelled a “superstar” – is currently valued at £91m, a higher valuation by the club’s current top target of some £23m.

Market Movers

Football FanCast's Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club's star player or biggest flop worth today?

Slot has hit the jackpot with this one. A new addition up front would be fantastic to propel Liverpool toward success this season, but if FSG fail, they are in good hands with Gakpo in the mix – and thriving.

Remembering Spinner Kline

In memory of an Australian bowler who featured in one of the greatest series of all time

Ashley Mallett04-Oct-2015On February 1, 1961, as Australian wickets tumbled to the West Indian attack on the last day of the fourth Test, Norm O’Neill and 12th man Johnny Martin took the team’s No. 11, “Spinner” Kline to the nets at the back of Adelaide Oval for what they hoped would be a confidence-boosting net.For the next 15 minutes, Martin and champion batsman and part-time spinner
O’Neill repeatedly clean-bowled Spinner, who hardly got a bat to any ball. So poor was his batting effort that a woman watching at the back of the net yelled, “You’re hopeless, Kline. Waste of time you going out there.”When Des Hoare was bowled by Frank Worrell for a duck, the score stood at 207 for 9. The “hope of the side” gathered his gloves, pulled on his baggy green and made his way down the steps through a throng of SACA members. A man yelled in jest, “Won’t be long now, Lindsay.” All the members roared. With a mixture of splendid defence, two cracking boundaries, and the patience of Job, Kline defied all the West Indians could throw at him and his senior partner, the indefatigable Ken “Slasher” Mackay.Led by the Wes Hall, who seemingly pushed off from the sightscreen for every delivery; the greatest allrounder in history, Garry Sobers; medium-pacer Worrell; and spinners Lance Gibbs and Alf Valentine, the West Indies attack bowled a total of 120 eight-ball overs on that final day. But they failed to break that last pair.Mackay took the last ball of the day from Hall, which rose and struck him fair on the chest. He had let the ball hit him through fear of getting an edge. Kline made his highest Test score, 15 not out, and Mackay finished unconquered on 62 to complete Australia’s great escape.

So poor was his batting effort that a woman watching at the back of the net yelled, “You’re hopeless, Kline. Waste of time you going out there.”

In November 1960, in the first Test of that series, Spinner featured with his great mate Ian Meckiff in a brief last-wicket stand. As Wes Hall came in bowl, the scores were level. Australia needed one run to win.Spinner pushed the ball to little Joe Solomon, close-in at point, and took off. Meckiff hesitated and ran full pelt for safety but Solomon threw down the stumps from side-on and the game was over. The West Indies danced in glee. They thought they had won the match. Norm O’Neill and the Australians thought they had won.In the wake of the first tie in Test history, Spinner said drily, “There was me running for a win and there was Meckiff running for a tie.”Over the years Spinner and Meckiff have been regular attendees at the Adelaide Test match. For more than 40 years the pair have been great friends with former South Australia and Test wicketkeeper Barry Jarman. At least once a year over many years they’d drive to Adelaide and hook up with O’Neill for a rollicking few days on board Jarman’s houseboat on the Murray River. One night as BJ, Norm and Meckiff spun stories over a convivial red wine or two, Spinner excused himself. The time went by and Meckiff said: “Where’s Spinner? He’s probably fallen in.”Ropes secured the boat to a couple of trees at a secluded spot on the river. There was a plank from the back of the boat to the sandy shore. They found Spinner hanging on to the side of the boat, saturated and laughing his head off.Kline’s bowling was the object of good-natured ribbing from his friends, but he did take a Test hat-trick•PA PhotosThe next day he announced that he had lost his glasses. Two days later, when they returned to that mooring spot, there the glasses were, murky water washing over them on the shoreline. In 1961, during Spinner’s England tour with Australia, the side played a couple of one-day matches in Ireland. In Belfast the wind blew to near-hurricane force, but Richie Benaud was determined to lead his side onto the ground. He wasn’t keen to bowl into the wind that wild Irish day, though, and left that task to Kline. “Spinner wasn’t the quickest through the air and he not only couldn’t get the ball up, I doubt whether it would reach the other end,” Jarman recalled.Kline’s finest bowling moment was his Test match hat-trick against South Africa in Cape Town in 1958.He played 13 Tests in all, taking 34 wickets at an average of 22.82. His last Test was that drawn Test at Adelaide Oval where he made 15 not out. On the houseboat trips the blokes would always scold him over that innings: “How come you scored only 15 in a whole session? Terrible batting Spinner.”Now Spinner is gone, but the cricket family will never forget the man Barry Jarman calls a “champion.”He loved a good red and watching the television show . He is survived by his wife Stella, two sons and two daughters. In the last year of his life, Spinner was greatly buoyed by the golfing prowess of his granddaughter, 17-year-old Olivia Kline, who in January this year won the SA Junior Masters by a whopping nine strokes at Royal Adelaide Gold Club.We are all blessed to have known this gentle soul who spun a ball and a story so well. God love him.

Kieron Pollard, Haris Sohail, Ben Cutting among picks at PSL replacement draft

Kieron Pollard will return to the Pakistan Super League for the first time since 2019 after he was picked by Multan Sultans in the replacement draft. The draft, which took place over a conference call on Wednesday, allowed each of the PSL sides to add two more supplementary players, as well as to name partial replacements for those whose availability was limited. Each side was allowed a maximum of one foreign player among the two supplementary picks.Haris Sohail, who recently returned to the Pakistan ODI side for the first time since 2020, was picked by his former side Peshawar Zalmi. There were a number of replacement picks owing to availability issues for the duration of the PSL, primarily due to a bilateral series between West Indies and South Africa, as well as potential international commitments for Afghanistan. A white-ball series between England and Bangladesh spanning much of the length of the PSL means several England players also needed to be partially replaced, with Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali and Jason Roy potentially unavailable.Related

Man City plotting transfer move for £25m star who City Group already know

da betcris: Manchester City are interested in signing a £25 million player who the City Group are already aware of, according to a new report.

Man City transfer news

da 888casino: Given how the last few weeks have gone for Pep Guardiola and City, January could be a busy month for the Premier League champions. The fact that goals are being conceded, and they are struggling to score enough at the other end of the pitch means the Blues could be looking to strengthen multiple positions in the squad.

It was reported on Wednesday that Man City are considering signing Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton in the New Year. The Blues are taking a “keen interest” in the England international, as he has rejected several contract offers from Everton. The new Everton owners, The Friedkin Group, hope their ambitions for the future will persuade Branthwaite to stay but have made no progress yet. Branthwaite has been a long-term target of Manchester United’s, but City are now also taking an interest in the talented defender.

January could also be a time that City add to their forward line, as they failed to replace Julian Alvarez in the summer. The Blues have heavily relied on Erling Haaland, and they are now interested in signing PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani on loan to ease the burden. City are showing genuine interest in a possible deal, and informal contacts have been made through intermediaries to get an understanding of the player’s current situation.

Man City plotting transfer swoop for £25m player

Kolo Muani is not the only striker that is on their radar, as according to TBR Football, Man City are interested in signing Manfred Ugalde from Spartak Moscow. The 22-year-old joined the Russian side in January of this year from FC Twente, and it is a transfer that has seen his career come alive.

The Costa Rica international has 15 goals in 18 Premier Liga games this season, which is the most he has scored in a single game in his career. Spartak Moscow is Ugalde’s fourth club of his career, as he’s also played for FC Twente, Saprissa, and Lommel SK. It is the latter where the City Group already know Ugalde, as they are the ones that brought him to Europe and Lommel SK.

The report states that his form in Russia has brought him to the attention of Man City, as well as Arsenal and Chelsea. City have already been made aware by Ugalde’s representatives that he is available for £25 million, as that is what his release clause is worth.
